KUALA LUMPUR: Celcom Axiata Bhd has announced the appointment of Tan Sri Dr Halim Shafie(pic) as its interim chairman, effective June 2.

       In a statement, the telco said the appointment follows the resignation of Datuk Izzaddin Idris who stepped down from his position as Axiata president and group chief executive officer and Celcom chairman on May 31, 2022. Halim was appointed Axiata Group independent non-executive director on Nov 1, 2020.

       He has served in many government agencies including the Education Ministry, Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit and the National Institute of Public Administration.

       Halim was the Energy, Water and Communications Ministry secretary-general in 2000, and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission chairman from 2006 to 2009 before taking up position as Telekom Malaysia Bhd chairman from 2009 to 2015, according to Bernama.
