BANGKOK (Bernama): To uphold the spirit of "Keluarga Malaysia” and to spread the Deepavali celebration cheer, the Malaysian embassy in Bangkok, Thailand on Sunday (Oct 31) distributed up to 100 sets of "Deepavali Delight” packs to Malaysians residing in the capital city.

       In light of the Deepavali celebration on Nov 4, the Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok prepared goodie packs consisting of murukku, pineapple tart, mixed nuts, kuih kapit and kerepek ubi for fellow Malaysians here.

       Malaysian Ambassador to Thailand Datuk Jojie Samuel said it is an initiative by the embassy to spread Deepavali cheer and festive joy albeit on a smaller scale.

       "The feedback has been quite positive amongst the Malaysians residing in Bangkok especially not only the Malaysian Indians of Hindu faith here but also of other races who came and received the goodies.

       "They expressed their gratitude and were also very appreciative of the initiative taken by the embassy to celebrate Deepavali albeit on a smaller scale,” he told Bernama.

       Earlier, Jojie handed over the "Deepavali Delight” packs to fellow Malaysians at the embassy on Sunday.

       A Malaysian student in Bangkok Douglas Labadin was delighted to receive the goodies pack.

       "The goodie pack reminds me when everyone gathers over snacks and sweets during Deepavali celebration back home,” the 26-year-old Chulalongkorn University students said.

       Meanwhile, an employee at a private company, Amirul Ikhsan Burhannudin thanked the embassy for the "Deepavali Delight” packs as it helped soothe his homesickness as he has not returned home for some time now due to travel restrictions.

       "Traveling home is a hassle now due to the Covid-19, therefore I am happy as we can savour the Deepavali snacks here,” he said.- Bernama
