A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and died in Lorton.

       Fairfax County police said the incident happened around 9:15 p.m. Friday in the 8100 block of Lorton Road.

       An initial investigation found that a man — who was later identified as Marco Antonio Galeas Sr., 55, of Alexandria — was crossing “mid-block on Lorton Road near the I-95 overpass, outside of a crosswalk” when a 2010 Nissan Altima hit him, police said in a statement. Officials said the driver stayed at the scene.

       Galeas was taken to a hospital, where died the next day. Police said an initial investigation found that “speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors for the driver.”

       The crash remains under investigation.
