ALOR SETAR: A government retiree has pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here to a charge of criminal breach of trust involving more than RM1.77mil belonging to a Siamese temple.
San Yap s/o Din Ei Yat, 71, entered the plea before Sessions judge Sharifah Norazlita Syed Salim Idid on Wednesday (Aug 25).
The former enforcement head of a government agency in Perlis was charged with committing the offence at Wat Boonyaram, Padang Sera, Kodiang, in the district of Kubang Pasu, between March 7 and Oct 25, 2016.
The charge, under Section 406 of the Penal Code, provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years and whipping, and a fine, upon conviction.
The court allowed San Yap, who was unrepresented, bail of RM15,000 with one surety and set Sept 26 for mention.
