PUTRAJAYA: MRCB deputy executive chairman Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din has been appointed to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) consultation and corruption prevention panel.

       He is among six individuals who have been appointed by the Prime Minister as panel members of the MACC’s independent monitoring bodies for a two-year tenure.

       Mohamad Salim replaces economist Prof Dr Edmund Terence Gomez, who resigned in December.

       Gomez resigned in what he described as a protest over the panel’s inaction with regards to allegations regarding MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.

       Azam was alleged to have business interests in a public-listed company.

       Earlier this year, the Securities Commission looked into the allegations and found that Azam did not breach any laws pertaining to his share trading account.

       The MACC also announced the reappointment of the five-member operations evaluation panel (PPO), including its chairman, former deputy head of the prosecution division of the Attorney General’s Chambers, Datuk Ahmad Rosli Mohd Sham.

       Also reappointed to the panel are former Kelantan state secretary Datuk Mohd Faudzi Che Mamat, former Inland Revenue Board deputy chief executive officer (compliance) Datuk Abdul Manap Dim, former Customs deputy director-general Datuk Azimah Abd Hamid and former Bank Negara deputy director of financial intelligence and enforcement Dr Mazlan Ahmad.

       “All those appointed are professional individuals who are experts in their respective fields.

       “They represent the public to monitor the implementation of MACC’s roles and operations,” said the statement on Monday (May 30).

       The appointments are with effect from April 1 this year to March 31, 2024.
