GEORGE TOWN: Indera Kayangan assemblyman Gan Ay Ling has tested positive for Covid-19 and is advising those who have been in close contact with her to get tested.

Gan, 46, said she was informed on Sunday (Aug 8) that a resident she met a week ago had tested positive for Covid-19.

She had a reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test on Monday (Aug 9) which confirmed she was infected.

"For everyone's information, I was fully vaccinated on June 11 this year.

"I've started self-isolation as a precaution since I took the RT-PCR test on Monday.

"I will abide by instructions from the Kangar District Health Department to conduct self-quarantine at home until the end of the infection period," she said in a statement on Thursday (Aug 12).

Gan said she only experienced a mild throat irritation and a headache but those symptoms have now reduced.

"I am just taking rest and hoping to recover," she said.

Gan said her Indera Kayangan service centre would also be temporarily closed.

"I apologise to all parties, including staff in the office, as well as friends and residents who are affected.

"Although all programs were conducted according to strict standard operating procedure (SOP), I urge all who were in close contact with me over the past seven days to conduct screening at the nearest clinic," said Gan.

Gan was formerly Penang Island City Councillor before resigning to contest during the 14th General Election under the PKR seat in Perlis.
