PETALING JAYA: Southern Cable Group Bhd has secured a RM30.38mil rectifier systems supply contract from Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM).
This is the largest rectifier systems order the group has secured from TM to date, after supporting the telecommunications giant for more than 18 years.
The group said, in a filing with the stock exchange yesterday, that its wholly owned subsidiary, Southern Cable Sdn Bhd, has accepted a letter of award to supply, deliver, install, test and commission rectifier systems, including associated engineering services and accessories for TM’s regional hubs across Malaysia.
Also included are the dismantling works for rectifier replacement or upgrade programmes.

Rectifier is a device that converts electrical alternating current to direct current, which are required for the operations of some transmission applications and devices.
The contract will be effective for 30 months beginning Sept 1, 2021 until Feb 28, 2024.
According to Southern Cable managing director Tung Eng Hai, the contract will complement the group’s long-term supply of communication cables and wires.
“We are ready to support TM’s ongoing expansion to accelerate digital connectivity and fifth generation rollout via the Jalinan Digital Negara or Jendela plan with the supply of our rectifier systems as well as other communications and related equipment,” he said.
