A busy intersection at the border of Palos Heights and Palos Park has been closed to traffic as emergency crews work on a natural gas leak.
The leak occurred at about 11:30 a.m. near the intersection of Illinois Route 7/Southwest Highway, Route 83/College Drive and 80th Avenue.
Construction crews struck a Nicor gas line, according to Palos Park police Chief Joe Miller.
He said he was not aware of evacuations being ordered, but said many businesses clustered near the intersection closed their doors because customers cannot get to them.
Police and fire units from neighboring communities are assisting, he said.
