ALOR SETAR: An undergraduate who was seriously injured in an accident while undergoing industrial training at the Dive Division Curacao in the Caribbean last December has returned safely.

       At the airport to welcome Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) final year student Nur Nabilah Mohd Azahar on Friday were her parents Mohd Azahar Zakaria and Nor Manira Khalib.

       Also present were UUM vice-chancellor Prof Dr Haim Hilman Abdullah, deputy vice-chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) Prof Dr Ahmad Martadha Mohamed, senior officials from Wisma Putra and UUM.

       Prof Haim Hilman said the plane carrying Nur Nabilah, 25, from Alor Setar, landed at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 8pm.

       He added that Nur Nabilah, a student at the UUM’s School of Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management (STHEM), would continue her follow-up treatment at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital (HUKM).

       He hopes the student and her family would continue to be patient and resilient.

       “I would like to thank UUM, parents and families who always prayed for Nur Nabilah as well as the Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and all parties involved in her treatment,” he said in a statement yesterday.

       Meanwhile, Nor Manira said she was grateful and indebted to all parties who helped with her daughter’s treatment abroad.

       “I am so happy to see my daughter brought home safely with the cooperation of all parties,” she said.

       One of Nur Nabilah’s friends, Aiman ？？Qistina Balqis Azman, said she took leave just to welcome her best friend home and hoped she would recover soon.

       Media reports had previously stated that Nur Nabilah suffered severe injuries to her left leg and a fractured right arm and right leg as a result of being hit by a boat propeller while undergoing industrial training on Dec 28. — Bernama
