Two men were killed in separate traffic crashes Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, according to Chicago police.

       A 54-year-old man was traveling south in the 9400 block of South Halsted Street in the Brainerd neighborhood when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a light post around 4 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

       He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead. The Cook County medical examiner’s office had not released his name early Wednesday.

       In an unrelated traffic crash in the West Rogers Park neighborhood, a 75-year-old man was hit by a car while crossing the street in the 7200 block of North Western Avenue around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

       The driver, a 96-year-old woman, was attempting to make a right turn onto Touhy Avenue, according to police.

       Police said the 75-year-old suffered a head injury and was taken in critical condition to Amita Health St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he was pronounced dead at 11:16 p.m.

       The medical examiner’s office identified the man as Miguel Ramos, of the 6300 block of North Normandy Avenue in the Norwood Park East neighborhood.

       The driver refused medical attention, officials said.

       Police are investigating both crashes.
