PETALING JAYA: Some 39 accident "black spots" have been identified in Selangor in conjunction with Ops Selamat held during the festive season.
Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed (pic) said police will pay closer attention to such accident-prone areas to prevent anything untoward from occurring.
"We have identified the black spots as a high number of accidents occurred there.
"The police will be ready to monitor the areas closely for the safety of all road users," he said when contacted on Thursday (April 28).
Among the black spots identified are Jalan Sungai Buloh-Kuala Selangor, Jalan Kuala Lumpur-Seremban, Grand Saga Highway, Jalan Subang, Jalan Salak-Sepang, Jalan Meru, MRR2, Jalan KL-Ipoh, Jalan Serdang Raya and Jalan Klang-Teluk Intan.
He advised the public to be careful on the road, especially during balik kampung travels.
"Safety should always be the priority.
"Be mindful of others while on the road," he said.
Ops Selamat will be held from April 29 until May 8. Its main objective is to minimise accidents, especially fatal ones and prevent house break-ins.
He also reminded those planning to return to their villages for Hari Raya Aidilfitri to inform the police of their movements to facilitate crime prevention patrols.
"The public can inform the police by contacting nearby police stations or the operations room of district police headquarters, downloading the balik kampung form via the link http://rmp.gov.my or through the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) application.
"We hope for public cooperation on the matter," he said.
Comm Arjunaidi said the police also forged strategic cooperation with petrol station operators since 2013 through the “Go-To-Safety-Point” (GTSP) programme.
"The programme enables road users to use petrol stations as safe points in the case of emergencies, mishaps or if they were victims of crimes.
"A total of 551 petrol stations in Selangor are involved in GTSP, namely, Petronas (228 stations), Shell (185), Petron (125), Caltex (seven) and BHPetrol (six)," he said.
