SHAH ALAM: The National Archives has mobilised its records disaster recovery team nationwide to help various departments and government-linked companies (GLCs) salvage records contained in some 10 million documents submerged in the recent floods.
The National Archives, which comes under the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry, has deployed its Records Disaster Recovery Team to help relevant quarters retrieve documents that were submerged in the floods, said ministry secretary-general Datuk Dr Noor Zari Hamat.
Noor Zari said most of the documents could still be salvaged.
“This is done by conducting conservation work through isolation, cleaning and drying, depending on the records concerned,” he told Bernama yesterday.
Earlier, Dr Noor Zari visited the Records Management Centre of the Malaysian Immigration Department at Section 23 here, which was among government premises affected in the recent floods.
The National Archives had so far visited more than 50 government departments and GLCs affected by the floods.
““This is also an educational process for government agencies on steps they should take in a situation like this,” he said.
Among the records that were submerged in the floods were those on administrative matters pertaining to personal records, such as the Service Record Book, patients’ treatment and appointments, financial and accounting records (payment vouchers and receipts), as well as applications for Malaysian passports.
