KOTA KINABALU: What seemed like a fender bender turned out to be a robbery in the Sandakan district early Tuesday (Jan 16), according to the police.
In the 5.30am incident, a 47-year-old teacher was driving to work from Taman Megah to SM Sung Siew when she was hit by a vehicle from the back, said Sandakan OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Fuad Malek.
“The woman then stopped her car, got down and confronted the driver.
"However, the driver allegedly took out a stick and started beating the teacher.
"She managed to fend off the attack and a scuffle ensued where the suspect is believed to have grabbed hold of the teacher’s handbag before fleeing in his own vehicle," he said.
The teacher escaped unhurt and lodged a police report on the incident, he said, adding that she incurred losses of around RM2,000.
ACP Abdul Fuad said the police were hunting for the suspect and urged those with information to come forward and assist them in their investigation.
