PETALING JAYA: Water supply to 472 areas in Selangor is expected to be fully restored by 9am today after a second unscheduled disruption in four days following another odour pollution detected at a raw water pump station.

In a statement last night, Air Selangor said clean water supply would be gradually restored to consumers beginning 9pm yesterday.

“The time frame of disruption and restoration in the affected areas differs according to the location of the consumers’ premises and water pressure in their area’s supply distribution system,” it said, adding that full restoration was expected by 9am today.

Yesterday afternoon, Air Selangor announced that the water supply to 472 areas – Petaling (172 areas), Hulu Langat (54), Sepang (196), Putrajaya (23) and Kuala Langat (27) – was cut from 3pm following the detection of odour pollution at the Jenderam Hilir raw water pump station.

Air Selangor said the latest discovery was made early yesterday and caused the subsequent closures of the Sungai Semenyih and Bukit Tampoi water treatment plants.

A similar pollution was reported in the same area on Saturday, causing an unscheduled disruption to 463 areas in Sepang, Petaling, Hulu Langat, Putrajaya and Kuala Langat that lasted for over 12 hours.
