AN elderly couple living in a rundown house in Rompin, Negri Sembilan, received help to rebuild their home, thanks to Jeram Padang assemblyman Datuk L. Manickam, Makkal Osai reported.
M. Subramaniam, 73, and wife S. Yellamma could not pay electricity bills and had the power cut off.
The water supply was also disconnected a few months ago.
Kampung Jelai’s former village head, identified as Shanmugam, found out about their plight and decided to bring it to the attention of local leaders.
Manickam donated RM1,500 to the couple to settle the water and electricity bills and sought help from Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB).
TNB then donated RM50,000 to the couple to refurbish their home complete with a proper bathroom.
Subramaniam said he was grateful to Shanmugam, Manickam and TNB.
> The daily also reported that Seberang Perai City councillor David Marshall has threatened to sue anyone linking him to an attack on Penang Hindu Endowment Board executive director Datuk M. Ramachandran.
Rama, as he is fondly known, was attacked in July by unknown men with knives in front of his house. He was warded for serious injuries.
Marshall, who has been a councillor since 2013, said such allegations were a malicious attempt to ruin his reputation and political career.
