PUTRAJAYA: The 2022 Ramadan and Aidilfitri bazaars recorded a sales value of RM2.4bil and created 156,361 employment opportunities, says the Statistics Department.

       The findings are based on the 2022 Ramadan and Aidilfitri Bazaars special study, which was conducted for the first time by the department from April 3 to 29, covering all bazaars registered with the local authorities.

       Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said Selangor, which had the most Ramadan and Aidilfitri bazaars, recorded sales of RM0.6bil and saw 31,563 people employed.

       It was followed by Kuala Lumpur with RM0.4bil in sales and 10,993 people employed, and Johor which recorded RM0.3bil in sales with 22,423 workers.

       At the district level, Petaling recorded the highest sales value of RM230.2mil followed by Johor Baru (RM126.3mil) and Hulu Langat (RM117.9mil).

       On Ramadan bazaars, Mohd Uzir said Selangor registered the highest sales value of RM527.4mil, followed by Kuala Lumpur at RM359.2mil and Johor at 257.4mil.

       At the district level, Petaling recorded the highest sales value of RM213.8mil, followed by Johor Baru at RM113.6mil and Hulu Langat at RM110.6mil.

       Selangor also recorded the highest number of Ramadan bazaar workers at 27,078 people, followed by Johor at 20,326 and Perak at 11,126.

       On Aidilfitri bazaars, Mohd Uzir said Selangor recorded the highest sales value and number of workers at RM115.8mil and 4,485 people respectively.

       At the district level, Melaka Tengah registered the highest sales value of RM61.8mil followed by Klang at RM59.4mil and Seberang Prai Utara at RM23.5mil. - Bernama
