JOHOR BARU: Pakatan Harapan’s attempt to wrest Layang-Layang by fielding former education minister Dr Maszlee Malik has not been successful, with Abd Mutalip Abd Rahman winning the seat for Barisan Nasional with a 2,815-vote majority.
Abd Mutalip garnered 7,551 votes while Maszlee, who is Simpang Renggam MP, only had 4,736 votes.
Perikatan Nasional’s Alagenthiran Krishnan had 1,278 votes while Parti Pejuang Tanah Air’s Ahmad Shafiq Othaman received a mere 164 – resulting in both candidates losing their deposits.
In 2018, Barisan’s Onn Hafiz Ghazi won Layang-Layang with a majority of 364 in a three-cornered fight.
