KOTA KINABALU: The state government should reveal the outcome of its investigations into whether a man named "Peer Mohamad Kadir", who had admitted obtaining Malaysian citizenship dubiously and a state political leader with the same name were the same person or different.

Pushing for answers, Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) Youth chief Jamain Sarudin said it was important for the government to clarify the matter and clear the air amid doubts on the citizenship of the state leader and growing public concern.

The Sabah MIC chairman also bears the name Peer Mohamad Kadir.

The issue became controversial several weeks ago when an activist highlighted that his name was similar to the name used by a man who had admitted to obtaining citizenship illegally.

A man with the name Peer Mohamad Kadir had told the 2013 Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on Sabah's Illegal Immigrant Issues that he had come from Chennai in India in 1980.

He had obtained a Malaysian identity card (MyKad) through questionable means in 1990 and his MyKad bore the number "12", reflecting Sabah-born Malaysian citizens.

"This issue is very sensitive and will have adverse reactions from the public. Situations like this warrant an immediate answer," said Jamain in urging the state government to clarify the issue.

Last month, the issue of "Peer Mohamad Kadir" was raised by activists and also Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), who wanted the state government to clarify the citizenship status of the politician who was appointed to the board of directors of a government-linked company.

Sabah MIC chief Peer Mohamad has not made any public statements on the matter.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor had also said the state government would look into the matter.
