KOTA KINABALU: A road tour aimed at raising awareness on the importance of Sabah ICs is being planned from May 11 to May 15.
The event is organised by the Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) Youth movement, and is expected to cover a distance of about 1,600km across Sabah, starting from Penampang district.
SAPP Youth chief Jamain Sarudin said they would then proceed to Papar, Membakut, Beaufort, Sipitang and Tenom all on the first day.
He said they plan to convey their message through the distribution of leaflets and fliers bearing messages related to Sabah ICs.
“We want to bring awareness and educate Sabahans on the importance of having Sabah ICs which ensures the protection of the rights of Sabahans,” he said in a statement, Tuesday (May 10).
Jamain said banners bearing slogans like “Jaminan Perlindungan Hak Rakyat Sabah” (guarantee of protection of the rights of the people of Sabah) will also be displayed in every stop of the tour.
The programme is expected to also see members going to Tambunan, Keningau, Tawau, Lahad Datu, Sandakan, Kundasang, Ranau, Kota Marudu, Kota Belud, Tuaran and Tamparuli on the second day onwards.
“We’ll be in Kota Kinabalu on the last day where the highlight event will be held at Lintasan Deasoka starting 10am on Sunday (May 15),” he added.
SAPP has been among those pushing for the implementation of a special Sabah IC, for Sabah citizens, to rectify and tackle the issue of dubious citizens supposedly having possession of the Malaysian identification document.
