GEORGE TOWN: A food delivery rider and an ambulance driver are among 62 suspected drug addicts nabbed under Ops Sarang.

State Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department chief Asst Comm Mustafa Kamal Gani Abdullah said the two suspects, aged 39 and 53, were nabbed while allegedly soliciting for drugs at a bus park in Paya Terubong.

"The suspects were arrested during Ops Sarang conducted from 12.30am until 3pm on Monday (Nov 8)," he told a press conference.

ACP Mustafa Kamal said the operation was conducted at several hotspots such as Sungai Nibong, Ayer Hitam, Pulau Tikus, Tanjung Tokong and George Town.

He said those arrested included three women and eight pushers, who all tested positive for drugs.

During the operation, some of the suspects tried to flee when the police raided the drug dens but all of them were caught after a short chase.

"We also seized about 400g of heroin, 16.68g of syabu and 0.67g of ketamine, worth a total of RM15,770.

"The case will be investigated under Sections 39B, 39A(2), 12(2) and 15(1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act," he said.

ACP Mustafa Kamal said a total of 6,597 drug addicts have been arrested in the state this year for various drug offences.
