IPOH: Taman Rakyat in Taiping has become the seventh residential area to be adopted under the Perak police Amanita programme.

       Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid (pic) said Amanita is a special unit consisting of policewomen and engages with housewives in the selected areas to reduce crime in the neighbourhood.

       “This is the seventh year since we conducted the programme in 2015. The first location chosen was Taman Sungai Rokam in Ipoh.

       “Under this programme, police will be able to gain information regarding crimes and interact with housewives as well as make the selected area a safer neighbourhood,” he said after officiating the programme via Facebook Live on Thursday (Aug 19).

       The other areas under the programme are Taman Wang Loon in Kampar, Taman Baru in Jalang, Taman Fasa 2 in Seri Manjung, Taman Gemilang in Perak Tengah and Taman Chandan Puteri in Kuala Kangsar.

       Comm Mior Faridalathrash said Amanita officers also educate the housewives on safety issues.

       “This includes talks and discussions on preventing crime, learning self-defence against domestic abuse, harassment and more.

       “We are hopeful that this collaboration will help to provide a safer residential community in Taman Rakyat,” he said.

       The housing area, comprising over 2,000 residents and about 400 houses, is the first in Taiping to be placed under the programme.

       According to Taman Rakyat Kawasan Rukun Tetangga chairman Bakhtiar Shafii, the community has always worked closely with the police.

       “It is an honour to be part of the programme. We have a good relationship with the police and often engage with them.

       “Previously, we have organised talks and dialogue sessions with the police on crime prevention,” he said, adding that the community will give its full cooperation to make the programme a success.
