KUALA LUMPUR: Police have opened an investigation into Penang Deputy Chief Minister II Dr P. Ramasamy over his social media post on the unilateral conversion of the three children of single mother Loh Siew Hong.
Federal CID director Comm Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan confirmed that an investigation was being carried out into Ramasamy’s post on Facebook.
“The post made on Feb 13 is said to be provocative and has caused many to be dissatisfied with linking the Perlis religious authorities with the terms unilateral Islamisation, kidnapping, manipulation, force and threats in his review of the issue of the custody of Loh’s children.
“The Bukit Aman CID Special Investigation Unit is investigating the case under Sections 505(c) and 504 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for making statements conducive to public mischief, intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace and improper use of the network service respectively,” he said in a statement.
Comm Abd Jalil said that as of yesterday, a total of six police reports had been lodged on the matter.
“The investigation is ongoing and we advise the public to refrain from speculating on the case, which may jeopardise the probe.
“We also advise the public to be more cautious when touching on sensitive issues such as religion and race,” he added.
He also urged the public to always be courteous when using social media and not to use the platform in a way that could lead to public anxiety and threaten national harmony.
Comm Abd Jalil also warned that stern action would be taken against any individual who was found to intentionally threaten public order and safety.
