SEREMBAN: Tampin is the worst district in Negri Sembilan to be affected by floods, as 1,253 victims were moved to 10 relief centres.
The Civil Defence in a statement said in total, 1,741 victims in four districts had to be evacuated to 17 centres.
Apart from Tampin, the other affected districts are Jempol, where 346 people were evacuated to four centres, Kuala Pilah (116) and Jelebu (27).
Several roads were also closed temporarily due to flash floods.
Among these were stretches along Jalan Jelai-Bahau, Jalan Loop Palong, Jalan Dangi-Bahau, Jalan Gemas-Rompin, Jalan Londah-Gemas, Jalan Kurnia Diraja-Felda Jelai 2, Jalan Dangi-Kepis-Bahau and Jalan Gemas-Jelai Tambahan.
State health exco and Repah assemblyman S. Veerapan, when contacted, denied claims by residents in Taman Pinggiran Felda Kelamah that a flood siren along Sg Kelamah had malfunctioned causing residents in the area to be caught unawares.
"The siren is working, but the residents probably did not hear it due to the unusually heavy rain.
"In fact, we managed to get them out before the area was flooded," he said, adding that the authorities had also warned the residents that they would have to leave their homes if the water level kept rising.
