A MAN in Kulim saved RM10 a day in a bamboo tube over three years in preparation for his marriage, reported Harian Metro.
Muhammad Farhan Samsudin, 25, said he kept the matter a secret from his then fiancee, Nurul Hannani Patin, 24. He revealed his secret only a day before they were married on Feb 2 after he uploaded a video of himself on social media, breaking the bamboo tube.
He said he decided to start saving money in the bamboo tube after Nurul Hannani continued her studies at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu.
“We have been in love for the past 11 years and as soon as I found out that she was continuing her studies, I decided to keep the money in a bamboo tube in preparation for our engagement and wedding ceremony.
“I really didn’t expect the video to go viral because I just wanted it as a memory for our marriage,” he said.
Muhammad Farhan, who teaches Quran and Fardhu Ain (Kafa), said he managed to collect more than RM9,000 from his savings during the three years.
“I used RM1,500 as dowry while the rest was used for preparations and for after our wedding.
“The idea of keeping money in a bamboo tube came after I saw a friend do it. It made me more disciplined because if I had wanted to withdraw any money, I would have to break the tube first,” said Muhammad Farhan, who also has a sound system rental business.
Nurul Hannani said she was surprised and moved to tears when she watched the video uploaded by her husband.
“I didn’t know that he was willing to save money for our marriage. I was very touched by his commitment,” she added.
She said that Muhammad Farhan has been an honest and loyal man throughout the 11 years they were together.
