The Princess of Wales has adopted a late-night tradition for her children to ensure they have a birthday like any other child.

As royals Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis have been in the spotlight since they were born.

But as Prince George prepares to celebrate his tenth birthday, Princess Kate will be ensuring their birthday tradition carries on as normal as possible.

Kate previously revealed that she loves to stay up late the night before her children's birthdays and bake a birthday cake.

During an appearance on Dame Mary Berry's Christmas special 'A Berry Royal Christmas', Kate revealed: "I love making the cake.

"It's become a bit of a tradition that I stay up until midnight with ridiculous amounts of cake mix and icing and I make far too much. But I love it."

It is also well known that the Princess loves to get behind the camera and take portraits of her children to share on their special day.

Last year the Prince and Princess of Wales released a photo of Prince George on the beach to mark his ninth birthday and just last month Kensington Palace shared two adorable pictures of Princess Charlotte to celebrate her eighth birthday.

Prince George will celebrate his landmark tenth birthday on Saturday with reports suggesting the family is holding a party on the Windsor estate where they live.

All three Wales children have finished school for the summer after breaking up from Lambrook School earlier this month and the Prince and Princess of Wales have no scheduled royal engagements.

The Mail Online reports that the heir to the throne has invited a "close-knit" group of school friends.

In previous years they have also spent George's birthday on the private Caribean Island of Mustique.
