GEORGE TOWN: Police are looking for a motorist who was involved in an accident which has gone viral on social media.
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Soffian Santong said the 78-second clip, uploaded on Facebook, showed a car hitting another car from behind, before the driver fled the scene, while endangering other road users.
"Checks found that the incident happened at Persiaran Bukit Jambul 5 on Nov 8 at 8.48am," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Nov 9).
ACP Soffian said following the incident, a police report has been lodged by one of the drivers who was involved in the accident at George Town police headquarters on Nov 8.
He said police investigation found that a car had stopped at the junction while another car, which was behind, suddenly entered the right lane and swerved back to the left lane when the driver saw another vehicle approaching.
As a result, the car crashed into the rear bumper of the first car, resulting in minor damage.
The driver then fled the scene. Efforts to track and identify the driver who fled the scene is ongoing.
The case is being investigated under Road Traffic Rules 1959.
