KOTA KINABALU: Sabah's daily Covid-19 cases continue to show a downward trend over the last three days, with the state recording 1,255 positive cases on Monday (Sept 20).

       State Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said this was the lowest figure recorded in the state since Aug 10, when cases began to spike over 2,000 and crossed 3,000 positive cases daily in August.

       He said Covid-19 infections dropped by 101 cases against the 1,356 reported on Sunday, with 18 of 27 districts showing a decline in new cases.

       He said eight other districts showed increases while Sipitang remained unchanged.

       Among the districts with reductions were Kota Kinabalu, Pitas, Lahad Datu, Papar, Sandakan, Tambunan, Kota Marudu, Tongod, Tenom, Penampang and Tuaran.

       He said a total of 602 Covid-19 infections (48% of the total) were due to direct contact while symptomatic cases accounted for 357 cases (28.4%). The other new infections were from clusters, among others.

       On vaccinations, Masidi said that 63,826 (15%) of the targeted 426,200 adolescents have so far received their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine since the state allowed the vaccination drive from Sept 17.

       To date, he said 52.6% of Sabah's 2.84 million adult population have been fully vaccinated, while 72.3% have had their first dose.

       The fully vaccinated include 1,560,179 people who completed two doses, as well as 95,577 who took the single dose CanSino vaccine.
