KOTA KINABALU: Sabah recorded 751 new Covid-19 cases Monday (Sept 27), its lowest since July 27. says Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

       The state's minister in charge of Covid-19 matters said the latest figures showed a drop of 327 cases from 1,078 cases recorded the day before.

       Eighteen of the 27 state districts reported drops, six saw an increase and there were changes to three other districts.

       Masidi said Kota Kinabalu and Semporna saw an increase in cases among urban areas while other major towns showed declining numbers.

       The other major areas with significant declining cases were Lahad Datu with 50 (-81); Ranau, 17 (-52); Keningau, 51 (-51); Kota Marudu, 27 (-34); Penampang, 36 (-28); Nabawan, 14 (-25); Sandakan, 60 (-21); Pitas, 19 (-20); Kudat, seven (-15); Putatan, 21 (-13); Tawau, 29 (-12); Tongod, two (-12); Tuaran, 46 (-11); and Tambunan, two (-10).

       He said Kinabatangan saw an increase from 51 to 61 cases with most of its cases coming from two clusters.

       Masidi said close contact screenings remained the highest contributor to the daily number with 366 cases (48.7%), followed by 232 cases (30.9%) from symptomatic screenings, 46 cases (6.1%) from cluster screenings, one case (0.1%) from targeted screenings, and 106 cases (14.1%) from other screenings.

       He reiterated the need for the public to continue to maintain a high level of personal hygiene and SOP compliance.

       He said failure to comply with SOPs was one of the major factors for symptomatic or sporadic infections.

       Of the new cases, he said 254 (33.82%) were under Category One, 454 (60.45%) under Category Two, five (0.66%) under Category Three, seven (0.93%) under Category Four and four (0.53%) under Category Five, while 27 cases were still under investigation.
