KOTA TINGGI: A 23-year-old soldier was killed on the spot after the truck he was driving met with an accident at 3.40pm on Monday (March 7).

       Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Hussin Zamora said the incident took place at KM16, Jalan Penawar-Punggai near here.

       “Initial investigations show that the 23-year-old victim was attempting to overtake another vehicle,’ he said in a statement.

       Supt Hussin said the victim and four other military personnel, aged 22 to 38, were on their way from Tanjung Leman Military Base in Mersing to Tanjung Sepang Military Base in Pengerang.

       He said two of them suffered serious injuries, while the other two escaped with minor injuries.

       “The four were admitted to Kota Tinggi Hospital for treatment,’’ he said, adding that police are investigating the matter under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
