KOTA KINABALU: Police have ruled out foul play in the case of a 62-year-old man who was found dead in a car in Kampung Lakang, Tamparuli, about 50km from here.
Tuaran police chief Deputy Supt Mohd Hamizi Halim said the victim suffered from dementia and memory lapses.
The man, who was reported missing by family members on Feb 26, was found dead at 7.52pm on Saturday (Feb 27) by the car's owner.
The owner had gone to check on a foul stench coming from the car parked near his house and made a report after finding the body.
DSP Hamizi said the deceased's wife confirmed his identity.
The victim went missing from his house in Kampung Tambalugu, about 2km from where he was found.
"The victim had dementia and would often get into other cars, even those not his family's," he said in a statement on Monday (Feb 28).
DSP Hamizi said police also found no traces of a struggle or other criminal elements to suggest foul play.
The case has been classified as sudden death, pending a post-mortem report.
