NAGOYA -- Crew from the Nagoya Coast Guard Office's patrol vessel "Miyakaze" came to the rescue of a dog who had got itself stuck on a concrete revetment in Chita, Aichi Prefecture, on Sept. 4.

According to the coast guard office, there was a call at around 2 p.m. on the day asking to rescue a dog stuck near a quay in the city's Kitahama-machi district. Three crew members of the Miyakaze, which was moored near the mouth of the Hori River in Nagoya's Minato Ward, were dispatched on a launch, and found the medium-size dog at the bottom of a concrete revetment near the mouth of the Mino River at around 3:30 p.m.

The revetment seemed too steep for the dog to ascend. The crew first tried to scoop up the pooch with a landing net, but the animal was wet and too heavy. The canine then jumped into water and swam away. The coast guard crew calmly chased it, and a crew member lifted the dog into their arms as it was trying to climb onto the revetment again.

The dog was safely returned to its owner, who had been watching the rescue drama from nearby.
