JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested a female kindergarten teacher for allegedly abusing a four-year-old girl with special needs.
Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Rupiah Abd Wahid said the victim’s mother lodged a police report on Tuesday (May 10) at 3.17pm following a video of the alleged incident that went viral on social media.
“The victim is a girl who is hyperactive and has a speech delay. The child’s parents placed her at the kindergarten in Tampoi here as it is a childcare centre for normal and special needs children.
“Police investigations through a closed-circuit camera showed that the incident happened on Monday (May 9) where the suspect had pulled the victim’s ear and even tried to suffocate the child by placing a pillow on her face,” she said here on Wednesday (May 11).
ACP Rupiah added that the victim was then brought to a medical check-up at Sultanah Aminah Hospital. A medical officer confirmed she suffered bruises on her right ear due to abuse.
She also said police then arrested the 24-year-old suspect on the same day the report was lodged at around 9pm.
ACP Rupiah added the suspect was under remand until May 17 to assist with the investigation classified under Section 31 (1) (a) of the Child Act 2001.
She urged those with information regarding the case to contact the Johor Baru North police headquarters hotline at 07-5563122.
