PETALING JAYA: Twenty families involving 77 people in Kampung Periuk in Kampung Baru, were evacuated to Dewan Sultan Sulaiman after their homes submerged in flood on Saturday (Dec 18).
In a statement on its Facebook page on Sunday (Dec 19), Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) said they were also provided toiletries.
"This temporary relief centre is coordinated together with the Welfare Department, Civil Defence Department, police and People's Volunteer Corps," it said.
Mayor Datuk Seri Mahadi Che Ngah also visited the area last night.
He also checked on the flood situation in Jalan Tun Razak, near the Putra World Trade Centre.
He said the flood was caused by the overflow from Sungai Gombak.
"Actions will be taken to ensure nearby residents can be rescued and moved to a safe location.
"We will also work with related agencies to mitigate the impact of this flood on the people," he said.
Meanwhile in Dataran Ukay, Hulu Kelang, a family of three - a man, woman and an infant, alongside 12 tahfiz schoolchildren were evacuated to a hall in Kampung Kemensah, Ampang.
Ampang Jaya district police chief asst comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak told a Malay daily that four policemen, with help of five personnel of Fire and Rescue Department (JPBM) and Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) were monitoring the area.
Investigation was ongoing, he added.
He also said a report was received on rising water levels in Kampung Pinggir 3, Lembah Jaya Utara last night.
"Those affected have been moved to Dewan MPAJ, but the number is yet to be confirmed.
"Four policemen are guarding the area with help from JPBM and MPAJ," he said.
