KUALA TERENGGANU: A senior PAS leader denied allegations of a plot by the party to topple Umno and Barisan Nasional leaders, with news emerging that a police report is to be lodged against the Islamist party.
PAS vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar described the leaked documents – alleged to be minutes of a PAS meeting showing a plot to topple and disrupt Umno and Barisan – as “rubbish” .
The Terengganu Mentri Besar said: “It is not true, don’t know where it came from. Even my name was spelt incorrectly.”
“They (the irresponsible parties) knew there were meetings so they created a narrative (that had gone viral),” he was quoted as saying by Bernama after opening a ceremony to hand over aid to scholarship recipients of Yayasan Terengganu here yesterday.
On Sunday, documents believed to be minutes of Perikatan Nasional (PN) meetings were leaked on social media, allegedly related to discussions between Ahmad Samsuri and PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan and several other party leaders on March 24 and March 27 as well as on April 4 and April 7.
Among the leaders implicated in the documents were Parti Pejuang Tanah Air chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin and supreme council member Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, and Barisan treasurer-general Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.
Admitting that the meetings did take place with the political leaders, Ahmad Samsuri, however, denied that they discussed the alleged plot.
Asked whether legal action would be taken against those behind the allegations, he said this would be a waste of time.
“We don’t know who spread it, the legal process is complicated and not worth (pursuing),” he added.
Meanwhile, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said in a Facebook post that he would leave it to Malaysians and Umno members to judge for themselves the contents of the documents.
