PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar (pic) is the target of hackers again.
“Don’t be deceived by calls or messages impersonating me,” the Senate president said yesterday.
He said his Telegram account was hacked by scammers, adding that his own niece was duped.
He said he received a call on the evening of Aug 31 from a person claiming to be a US Embassy official who told him the ambassador wanted to speak to him on matters of great urgency.
“I was asked to contact the ambassador through Telegram. When the caller asked me to open my Viber app, I realised something was wrong,” he said yesterday.
Wan Junaidi said he instead asked the caller to meet him at his office in Parliament the next day, before blocking the caller’s foreign phone number.
He said the next day, he instructed his officer to lodge a report with the Malaysian Communica-tions and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and Cybersecurity Malaysia.

“At that time I did not suspect anything amiss until I received a few messages recently asking me whether my phone was hacked.
“Obviously a lot of people had been contacted using my number,” he said.
Wan Junaidi added that several individuals said they received messages from “him” asking them to go to his office at Parliament.
He said his niece went to his office in Parliament yesterday saying she had been asked to do so by “him”.
So far, he said he did not know whether the hackers had resorted to scamming unsuspecting victims for money on the pretext of seeking donations.
“Based on my previous experience, the hackers used my name to ask for money,” he said.
Wan Junaidi advised the public not to be deceived by calls or messages from unscrupulous people.
“Anyone who received such messages or calls can contact my office at 03-2601 7610 for further verification,” he said.
His Telegram account was first hacked in July last year when he was then in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law).
