SHAH ALAM: Losses during the recent Johor state election are only a small blip, says DAP strongman Tan Kok Wai.
In his opening speech at the 17th DAP national congress Sunday (March 20), the incumbent DAP chairman said the 1995, 1999 and 2005 general elections also saw DAP losing all seats in Johor while winning only one seat in Penang.
"The important thing is that we learn from the defeat in Johor and rise again.
"In the lead up to the 15th general election, we need to show Barisan Nasional that we will not give in," he said.
Tan added that Pakatan Harapan was the best model of political cooperation, with its component parties striving to uphold the welfare of the people as well as cultivating a new political culture for the nation.
"The political landscape following the 14th general election indicated it was no longer possible for any one party to helm the government, and that cooperation was needed between parties.
"Despite our party’s willingness to cooperate with others, we will not work with the corrupt or political frogs," he said.
The 17th DAP national congress, themed "Sparking Hope", was held at the IDCC Convention Centre in Shah Alam on Sunday after being previously postponed due to Covid-19 restrictions.
