Ms Meloni rolling her eyes (Image: Pool)
Georgia Meloni was spotted rolling her eyes and whispering with French President Emmanuel Macron at the first G7 meeting today, as splits emerge between world leaders.
Donald Trump’s presence is already destabilising the summit in Canada, as he refuses to offer a united front with his fellow leaders on Iran, Israel, Russia and Ukraine.

The President has already said he won’t sign the joint communique on Iran and Israel, as it was revealed Keir Starmer led a ‘Trump handling’ meeting last night with fellow allies.
Ms Meloni, who often struggles to conceal her emotions, was spotted in cahoots with Mr Macron, both of whom appeared to be using their hands to dodge lip reading.
Sir Keir Starmer will hold his first face-to-face meeting with Donald Trump this evening, where he is confident of ensuring his trade deal with the US is put into effect.

With WW3 fears overshadowing the G7, Starmer and others are more scared of Trump
Seven years ago, Donald Trump sparked the most chaotic scenes seen at a G7 summit for decades. The leader of the free world flipped over the metaphorical table, tore up the join communique and stormed off early, leaving the smouldering wreck of western diplomacy in his wake.

Serenity of location contrasts with diplomatic chaos
I'm currently reporting from a conference room with one of the most stunning window vistas I've ever seen.
However the serenity and calmness of the trees and mountains stands in stark contrast to an already chaotic G7 summit.
We've just learned from No. 10 that Keir Starmer held an informal meeting with four other leaders last night, prior to Donald Trump's arrival.
A spokesman actually failed to deny that it was a 'Trump handling' meeting, as all leaders fear he will once again derail what should be a crucial meeting of world leaders.
Starmer is meeting Trump late evening UK time, and I'll be on hand to report any developments.

Starmer 'happy' with G7's make-up after Trump comment about Russia
Sir Keir Starmer is “happy with the make-up” of the G7, Downing Street said after Donald Trump’s suggested that kicking Russia out of the group was a mistake.
Asked if the Prime Minister agreed with the US president’s remarks, a Number 10 spokesman said: “I think obviously those comments are a matter for the US.”
He added: “The Prime Minister goes ahead with the G7 and is happy with the make-up of it.”

'Stay near shelter', No10 urges Britons in Israel
Downing Street said its key message to British nationals in Israel was to stay near shelter and follow the advice of local authorities.
The UK has no plans to evacuate Britons stranded in Israel but support has been stepped up in Jordan and Egypt for people who make their own way overland.
Foreign Secretary David Lammy told MPs travel advice was being updated with information about border crossing points.

Israel-Iran war 'will hurt economy'
Escalation of the conflict between Israel and Iran “poses real risks for the global economy”, Foreign Secretary David Lammy said, as he urged both sides to “show restraint”.
He told the Commons: “Further escalation in the Middle East is not in Britain’s interests, nor the interests of Israel, Iran or the region.
“There are hundreds of thousands of British nationals living in the region, and with Iran a major oil producer and one-fifth of the total world’s oil consumption flowing through the Strait of Hormuz, escalating conflict poses real risks for the global economy.
“As missiles rain down, Israel has a right to defend itself and its citizens, but our priority now is de-escalation. Our message to both Israel and Iran is clear, step back, show restraint, don’t get pulled ever deeper into a catastrophic conflict whose consequences nobody can control.”

Brits in Israel should tell the Foreign Office
All British nationals in Israel should register their presence in the country with the Foreign Office, David Lammy has said.
The Foreign Secretary said it would mean they could get information on how to leave the country. He said the Government’s “first priority” is the welfare of British nationals. Mr Lammy said a rapid deployment team was also being sent to Egypt, and border crossings are being posted on the Foreign Office website.
The Government is looking for ways to evacuate British people from Israel.

Trump and Starmer to have 'pull aside' meeting on G7 sidelines

Italy's Meloni thanks UK for clarity on migration
Giorgia Meloni thanked the UK for being “very clear” in its stance on people-smuggling and migration.
Meeting Sir Keir Starmer for bilateral talks in Kananaskis as leaders gather for the G7 summit, the Italian prime minister said she was “very happy about all of our cooperation on migration”.
She said the summit would be a “very good occasion” to discuss issues such as the conflict in the Middle East and Ukraine.
Ms Meloni added: “And then many bilateral topics, many very important things that Italy and the UK are doing together also, for example, on defence with the G-Cap and other very strategic initiatives.
“And then I’m very happy about all of our cooperation on migration.”
Sir Keir said: “Yes, on migration, we’ve got a lot to discuss.”
Ms Meloni added: “So I’m very happy that this work continues, and thanks to UK for being very clear on this topic.”

European nations must send united message to Trump at G7, former British diplomat says
A former British diplomat has said European nations might try to send “co-ordinated messages” to Donald Trump at the G7 summit.
Sir Mark Lyall Grant, a former UK ambassador to the United Nations, told the Today Programme on BBC Radio 4 that all the members of G7 had a “negative consensus”.
He said: “No-one participating wants Iran to have a nuclear weapon. They are all concerned about escalation and particularly spillover – attacks on their own nationals or interests in the region, or indeed their own countries. None of them wants to get directly involved.
“Japan and Canada have been the most critical of Israel, the USA and Germany are more standardly pro-Israel and other Europeans are somewhere in the middle.
“Much depends on President Trump. He clearly doesn’t want to get involved but is talking about the countries doing a deal, which is unrealistic.
“Europeans ganging up on President Trump doesn’t work very well. He is so unpredictable, it is difficult to see where he will come out.
“More likely they will individually try to have co-ordinated messages to him: that they are happy to see Iran’s nuclear capabilities being degraded and destroyed, but on the other hand they can’t give a green light to President Netanyahu because what he’s doing is in violation of international law.”

Trump and Starmer to discuss UK-US trade deal during face-to-face meeting
Sir Keir Starmer has said he will talk about implementing the UK’s trade deal with the US during a one-on-one meeting with Donald Trump at the G7.
The Prime Minister said the deal was in the “final stages” and he expects it to be completed “very soon”.
“But yes, I’ll be discussing that with President Trump, along with another number of other things.
“I’ll be having a one-on-one with him. I think I’m seeing him on a number of occasions today, because we’re in all of the sessions together.
“So I’ll be having a lot of conversations with President Trump, but we will be talking about our trade deal, because the trade deal, because that really matters for the vital sectors that are safeguarded under our deal, and so we’ve got to implement that now.”
Britain’s long-coveted free trade deal with Washington was agreed upon last month but is yet to be implemented, with both sides yet to take the necessary steps to reduce tariffs.

Israel-Iran war top of the agenda as Starmer meets world leaders
Sir Keir Starmer said Israel and Iran would be the “number one issue” at the G7 and that there is a “consensus for de-escalation” among leaders at the summit.
Ahead of talks, he said “the number one issue here is obviously the conflict, particularly in the Middle East”.
Referring to US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, he said: "I spoke to President Trump just in recent days, and, of course, Prime Minister Netanyahu, and to pretty well all of the G7 leaders yesterday.
“And I do think there’s a consensus for de-escalation.
“Obviously, what we need to do today is to bring that together and to be clear about how it is to be brought about.
“But the risk of the conflict escalating is obvious, I think, and the implications, not just for the region but globally are really immense, so the focus has to be on de-escalation.”

Starmer declines to apologise over grooming gangs inquiry
Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has announced there will be a national inquiry into grooming gangs, a policy Keir Starmer now supports - even though he said in January that Conservative MPs supporting an inquiry were "jumping on the bandwagon of the far-Right".
But Sir Keir refused to apologise today. Asked if he should say sorry, he told our reporter in Canada: "Grooming is a vile offense, absolutely vile. And I brought the first prosecution when I was chief prosecutor, really 15 years ago now. So I've seen the impact directly on victims.
"There have been a number of inquiries with very many recommendations. I took the view that we should implement those recommendations because they've been sitting on a shelf.
"Vitally important we do for things like mandatory reporting that we've already brought into place. But as a safeguard, I asked Louise Casey to look again to an audit to see if there's anything that had been missed.
"She's carried out that audit. She's presented that to me. I've read it in full, and on the basis of what she's found, she says there should be a National Inquiry.
"I've looked at her report, I've considered that material. I think she's right, and that's why it'll be a National Inquiry. It'll be a statutory inquiry. It'll go wherever it needs to go."
