KOTA KINABALU: Sabah's daily cases increased on Thursday (Sept 23), breaking the downtrend momentum previously, with 1,629 cases compared to 1,199 from the day before.

Two districts recorded a spike in new cases, with Ranau recording 193 compared, up from 31 the day before, and Kinabatangan recording 167, up from 30.

Sabah Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun (pic) said 157 cases in Kinabatangan are contributed by three existing clusters, while Ranau's higher figures were due to extensive close contact tracing.

Other districts that also recorded notable increases of cases are Kota Marudu with 114 cases compared to 54 previously, and Keningau with 102 from 66 previously.

Kota Kinabalu, meanwhile, recorded a marginal increase of three cases to 153, where 29 infections involved detainees and 29 more were offshore oil rig workers, he added.

A new cluster involving a workplace called Batu 46 Tulid in Keningau, has 48 cumulative cases so far.
