PETALING JAYA: The high tide phenomenon at Port Klang remains under control for now, after the water reached its peak on Saturday (Nov 6) morning.
“The waters reached up to 5.6m at its peak at about 6.30am, but receded about half an hour later,” said Klang District Fire and Rescue Department zone chief Hussin Ab Rahman.
“Fortunately, the waters also didn’t overflow into people’s homes but just spilt over onto the roads.”
The National Hydrographic Centre in Port Klang forecasted high tide at 5.6m on Saturday at 6.40am, while the tide will reach 5.5m at 7.18am on Sunday (Nov 7).
Areas particularly vulnerable to the high tide phenomenon in Klang and Port Klang are Kampung Tok Muda, Kampung Sungai Pinang in Pulau Indah, Pandamaran, Taman Selat Damai, Kampung Sungai Serdang, Ban Sementa Bund, Sungai Keramat Bund, Kampung Perepat, North Port, Telok Gong and Pulau Ketam.
It was earlier reported that the relevant authorities tasked with rescue and relief works were on alert and that all equipment needed for relief work such as boats and life jackets were on standby.
