KLANG: Preparations are underway to cordon off the workers' accommodation for the LRT3 construction site at Johan Setia here as it will be placed under the enhanced movement control order from Wednesday (June 30).

       The location was placed under the enhanced MCO from June 30 to July 13 after several of the project’s workers tested positive for Covid-19.

       Aside from this location, other areas in Selangor that will be under the enhanced MCO are the Gamuda Gardens project workers quarters in Rawang, the Sri Ayu Apartment in Bandar Baru Bangi and Taman Murni in Sepang.

       When contacted, Klang Municipal Council health director Azmi Muji confirmed the affected area was the LRT 3 construction site.

       “Some workers there have tested positive and therefore the entire area will be closed-up,’’ said Azmi, adding that there are no houses near the construction site, which is surrounded by agricultural land.

       Klang district officer Mohd Zainal Mohd Nor said he has yet to receive any details on the exact number of workers that are infected.

       “We will do a head-count after cordoning the place and we will get the necessary details from the district health office after that,’’ he added.

       The area falls under the Sungai Kandis state assembly constituency and Kota Raja parliamentary constituency.

       Meanwhile, Sungai Kandis assemblyman Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni said he had called up the company managing the LRT3 construction site in Johan Setia and was informed that more than 100 workers there were infected with Covid-19.

       “The place is gated and guarded and there are two sections of workers' quarters. Only one section has positive cases,’’ said Mohd Zawawi adding the nearest villages to the affected area were Kampung Johan Setia and Kampung Sri Nadi.

       However, both are quite a distance from the LRT3 construction site.
