AN international concert inspired by 18th century Indian classical composer Tyagaraja Swami featuring contemporary Carnatic musicians from India and Malaysia is taking place this Sunday.
The Sangeethalaya Academy is collaborating with the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Indian Cultural Centre and the Malaysia Ceylon Saivar Sangam to host the Carnatic concert in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Nanban reported.
The concert, which will take place at the Kala Mandapam in Jalan Scott, Brickfields, will be officiated by Indian High Commissioner to Malaysia BN Reddy.
The renowned Carnatic vocalist Mithila Devi and the former chairman of the Sangeethalaya Academy, Sukradevan Ponniah, will also be honoured at the event for their contribution to the art form and its teaching.
> Police in Port Dickson have arrested six men and are looking for two more who, in a drunken state, beat up a father and son, Malaysia Nanban also reported.
The 46-year-old man and his 16-year-old son were apparently watching the aftermath of a collision involving a car and motorbike from in front of their house.
The pair ended up being targeted by an armed mob who beat them up and slashed them with parangs.
Following a police report by the man’s wife, police detained six men in Lukut between Jan 16 and 18.
