PETALING JAYA: A new political party - Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) - will be launched on Tuesday (Dec 21).
It is learnt that the party supports Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s government.
It is expected that several MPs and assemblymen including Julau MP Larry Sng and Tebrau MP Steven Choong will join the new party.
Sng, who is expected to be appointed as PBM deputy president, and Choong, are Independent MPs.
A PBM insider said the party will be a grassroots-powered multiracial party.
“About 50,000 Penggerak Komuniti Negara (PKN) members will join PBM and turn it into a political power. We will evolve into a new force to rock the nation with our soon-to-be-revealed big agenda,” said the source.
“We will be the new political force supported by women, millennials and zoomers (nickname referring to members of Generation Z). We aim to be the big voice of Malaysian politics and not play second fiddle to any other political party. PBM is our chosen platform. Make no mistake about that,” the source added.
However, according to another source, Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin will not be heading the party as claimed.
Through an invitation to the media on Monday (Dec 20), PBM will be launched at Wyndham Acmar Hotel, Klang at 2.30pm, Tuesday (Dec 21).
The invitation with a purple background also used the slogan “Rumah Malaysia, Keluarga Malaysia”.
It is understood that PBM was formerly known as Parti Pekerja Sarawak (SWP) and the Registration of Societies (RoS) has approved the change of SWP's name to PBM and its new constitution.
PBM held an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) on Nov 14.
