KUALA KANGSAR: The Sessions Court here ordered a man who went amok on the North-South Expressway (NSE) at Kuala Kangsar to be referred to Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta for 30 days of psychiatric evaluation and observation.

The order was issued by Judge Rohaida Ishak against Zainordin Mohamed, 36, on Friday (June 17) after allowing deputy public prosecutor Nur Asmaniza Muhamad’s request that the accused be sent to the hospital for evaluation under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

According to Nur Asmaniza, Zainordin was in an unsound state of mind during his remand period and needed to be evaluated and observed at the hospital.

Zainordin plead guilty to three charges, causing mischief by kicking the side mirror of a car, obstructing other motorists by vehicle when he stopped his car in the right lane of the highway at Kilometre 253 of the Kuala Kangsar stretch of the NSE at 6.0 pm on June 12 and lastly for using the drug THC (Tetra Hydrocannibol) at the Kuala Kangsar district police headquarters at 3.40pm on June 14.

During the proceedings the accused was seen talking to himself, acting irrationally before asked to calm himself down.

The judge set July 14 for case mention. - Bernama
