The Prince of Wales, 72, and the Duke of Cambridge, 39, recently appeared together at the James Bond premiere last week. The two royals were among those on the red carpet in London for ‘No Time To Die’, Daniel Craig’s final outing as 007. Charles and William also had their own on-screen moments last month as they featured in a BBC documentary about the late Prince Philip, Britain’s longest-serving royal consort.

       The Duke of Edinburgh – Charles’ father and William’s grandfather – passed away in April aged 99.

       ‘Prince Philip: The Royal Family Remembers’ saw the Duke’s children and grandchildren recount some of their most cherished memories of his long life.

       Charles and William are the first and second in line to the throne after the Queen, Britain’s current monarch.

       While they may draw inspiration from Philip’s extraordinary legacy, the pair are looking to chart their own royal futures, according to Richard Fitzwilliams.

       The royal commentator and film critic told Express.co.uk he expects the pair to put their own personal stamps on their reigns as monarch.

       He said: “They’re not meaning to match the Duke of Edinburgh; people have their own ways of doing things.

       “Everyone is different, the Duke had this superhuman energy.

       “I think that he [Charles] is very reflective, I think he’s sensitive, I think he’s generous."

       The Prince of Wales is also well-known for championing the environment and warning about the effects of climate change through various initiatives.

       Mr Fitzwilliams said: “His trust and his work for the environment, those are the two aspects of Charles that I think have been internationally praised.

       “Alan Bennett in ‘The Madness of King George’ said being Prince of Wales isn’t a position, it’s a predicament.

       “That was in the play, and some might find it funny but what he’s done is create his own role and it’s sometimes been controversial, but he’s managed it very well.

       “Remember, the Prince of Wales has been championing the environment, officially it is a cross-party political issue, everyone is agreed on it, so that isn’t controversial.

       “What he wouldn’t do as King is be an activist.”

       Charles has also stressed that he would not be a “meddling” monarch or an activist King, telling the 2018 BBC documentary, ‘Prince, Son and Heir: Charles at 70’ that the roles of heir and monarch are different.

       Speaking about Charles’ environmentalist streak, Mr Fitzwilliams added: “I think there is no question that we know where he stands on it.

       “But I think as King he will make sure he is strictly neutral on any issue that is an issue that divides political parties.

       “The climate emergency was unanimously voted for in parliament.

       “Charles has said he won’t be an activist king, he’s created his own role as Prince of Wales and that has meant activism.

       “It’s a different role, as Prince of Wales he has been an activist, as King he can’t be.”
