JOHOR BARU: The Johor Jaya market has been ordered to close immediately following the detection of several Covid-19 cases there.
The Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) issued the directive, which ordered the premises to temporarily close starting Sept 1 until Sept 7, to curb the further spread of the virus.
MBJB councillor for Johor Jaya zone Chan San San, who visited the location on Wednesday (Sept 1) to learn about the situation, said she was informed that there were at least nine people from the market who tested positive.
“The nine have been told to go into home quarantine.
"The first round of sanitisation has been done at the market and tomorrow (Sept 2), MBJB will send a team to disinfect the area again.
“Members of the public who have been to the market in the past few days should self-quarantine and go for a swab test or perform self-test at home.
“Please seek medical help if you are experiencing any symptoms or feel unwell,” she said.
She added that following the situation, the other traders allowed to sell their goods by the street outside the market have taken the initiative to stop their activities for the time being in order to stay safe.
She thanked all the traders for their cooperation and for adhering to the council’s directive.
Chan urged the public to avoid going to crowded places and if they must, necessary precautions should be taken such as double-masking and wearing a face shield.
