SINGAPORE – A car crashed into a lamp post in Tanjong Pagar Road in the early morning on Dec 15, following a car chase by the police.
The police said their officers were driving along South Bridge Road at about 4.35am when they spotted a car travelling at high speed and signalled to the driver to stop.
Refusing to comply, the driver sped off and allegedly lost control of his vehicle during the ensuing pursuit by police officers. The car then crashed into a lamp post, and the driver and his passengers fled on foot towards Tras Street.
Chinese-language news outlet Shin Min Daily News reported that the accident happened near 81 Tanjong Pagar Road, which is 140m away from a fatal crash site in 2021, according to Google Maps. Five people were killed in that accident, in which the car burst into flames after the crash.
Following the Dec 15 crash, a 22-year-old female passenger and a 32-year-old male passenger were arrested for suspected drug-related offences.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it was alerted to the accident at about 4.40am.
The 32-year-old man, who was conscious, was subsequently taken to Singapore General Hospital.

The Straits Times has learnt that the driver and three of his passengers are still at large.
A woman who lives near the crash site told Shin Min that her husband heard a loud bang after he woke up for work and that he saw the car spin upon crashing into the lamp post.
She added that he saw three to four people attempting to escape the scene, running in different directions, before one was caught by the police.
Photos provided by another eyewitness show a woman with orange hair handcuffed and being questioned by police.
Police investigations are ongoing.
