JOHOR BARU: Traders at the Deepavali bazaar in Jalan Ungku Puan here are hoping for a final push in sales by lowering price tags.

Trader M. Manjula who sells costume jewellery said she has been offering various deals in the hope of drawing more customers.

“Previously, most of our customers came from Singapore but this time, we are depending on locals.

“We have been giving all kinds of deals especially during the run up to Deepavali,” she said.

Manjula, 50, said she was selling bangles for as low as RM3 to RM15 while earrings were priced between RM15 and RM25 per set.

“Normally, customers buy their clothes first before coming here to look for costume jewellery to match.

“Business has not been as good as it used to be before the pandemic and I hope that the discounts will help lead to more sales,” she said.

Another trader M. Risha, 22, who sells clothes said the Anarkali suit has been a hit this year due to its versatility and wide variety.

“The Anarkali suit has been a favourite this year among ladies of all age groups. Some are opting to wear it for Deepavali while others are keeping it for other occasions.

“They can choose to buy it as a set or just the top that could later be matched with pants. It could also be worn as a dress on its own.

“There is also a wide variety of colours and materials for customers to choose from,” she said, adding that the clothes at her stall were priced between RM50 and RM400.

Another trader who only wanted to be known as Manju said Punjabi suits were also selling well, especially those in the lower price range.

“There are no specific designs or colours that are trending this year and most customers are choosing clothes that have lower price tags.

“We are selling Punjabi suits for as low as RM35. Business has not been great for us this year. Those who are not fully vaccinated, including children could not enter and this has affected sales,” she said, adding that she hoped to see more customers right up to Deepavali eve.
