IPOH: A 21-year-old man was arrested by the police to assist investigations into a double rape case in Manjung.

       Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the arrest was made here on Saturday (Dec 25) at 2.20pm.

       "Based on initial investigation, the two victims, who are sisters, were on their way home while riding a motorcycle before they were stopped by the suspect at Ayer Tawar around midnight on Dec 21.

       "The suspect, who was armed with a knife, threatened to kill both victims if they refused to follow his orders. He was also riding a motorcycle," he said, adding the victims were in their 20's and 30's.

       He said the man, who worked as a civil worker at Kota Samarahan, Sarawak, was in Manjung for a holiday.

       "We arrested the suspect, seized the vehicle and clothes he used that day. He also stole some items from the victims.

       "He is now being remanded for seven days from Dec 25 to assist with the investigation," he said, adding that the suspect has no prior criminal record.

       The case, he added, was being investigated under Section 392 and Section 376 of the Penal Code for robbery and rape respectively.
