JOHOR BARU: Some 1,500 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2021 candidates from Tanjung Piai have been given free access to online tuition classes to help them prepare for the examination.
Tanjung Piai MP Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng, who is also Primary Industries and Commodities Deputy Minister, said that students from 11 secondary schools under his constituency, including a religious school and a vocational school, could start logging into (https://tanjungpiaituition.com/) to join the classes starting from July.
"It is important for us to prioritise education and give every student an equal opportunity to do well in their studies. No one should be left behind.
"I hope that this program could benefit all students in Tanjung Piai and allow them to do well in their SPM so that they go to universities and bring their family out of poverty," he said.
He said this during the launch of the initiative via a virtual meeting here on Thursday (July 15).
The virtual event was launched by Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon.
Wee also noted that the program was first mooted in 2017, where in its first year, it focuses on providing free tuition classes for secondary students.
"Starting from 2018, we have turned it into online classes, where students are given an account with a password to log into the online classes.
"Every year, about 1,500 to 1,700 SPM students benefit from the program. We hope to continue this program every year, especially during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic where everything is being conducted online," he said.
He added that students were given access to a total of 17 subjects covering Form 4 and 5 syllabus.
