JOHOR BARU: One of the two firemen who sustained injuries while putting out a factory fire in Segamat died at the Segamat Hospital early Monday (Dec 13) morning.

Bandar Baru Segamat Fire and Rescue station chief Mazuki Ismail said fireman Mohd Firdaus Sulaiman had passed away at around 4.10am Monday due to serious injuries.

He added that the 32-year-old had been serving at the station since 2014 and left behind a wife Nurul Jannah Abd Hamid Khan, 29, and their three-year-old daughter.

“His passing is a huge loss to the station and Johor Fire and Rescue Department.

“Firdaus was a good, disciplined and responsible officer and until the last moment, he was still faithful to his duties,” he added.

Mazuki said Firdaus' body was at the hospital's forensics department for cleansing before being brought back to his hometown for burial.

Firdaus is expected to be buried at Tanah Perkuburan Jalan Zaitun at Sikamat in Seremban, Negri Sembilan, later Monday.

On Saturday (Dec 11), two firemen, one of whom was Firdaus, were injured in an explosion while putting out a factory fire here.

The department received a call about a fire at a factory here at about 5am Saturday and deployed 22 firemen from the Bandar Baru Segamat and Labis fire stations.

While putting out the fire, an explosion occurred on level three of the factory that led to the partial collapse of the structure.

Two firemen and one factory worker were injured in the incident and were sent to the Segamat Hospital for treatment.

The other injured fireman was Syed Putra Syed Mohd Al Atas, 52, while the injured factory worker was identified as Mohamad Azura Mahrani, 40.
